The crew members of STS-101 aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis used a 70mm handheld camera to record this image of the frequently active Mount Etna (37.5 north degrees latitude and 15.0 degrees east longitude)located on the east coast of Sicily. NASA scientists observed that Mount Etna is nearly always seen venting steam into the atmosphere. Just to the south of the volcano is the coastal port city of Catania.
