This is a close-up view of the Soyuz 39S and Expedition 41 cakes awaiting cutting and serving in the space station training facility at the Johnson Space Center. Such cake-cutting ceremonies traditionally mark the end of USA-based training.
On hand for the event were the many training staff members and the flight crew, made up of Russian cosmonaut Maxim Suraev, commander, European Space Agency astronaut Alexander Gerst and NASA astronaut Reid Wiseman, both flight engineers.
