One of the STS-106 crew members on board the Space Shuttle Atlantis, 204 nautical miles above Earth, used a handheld 70mm camera to photograph this image featuring the Sea of Galilee and part of the Mediterranean coast. Also known as Lake Tiberius and other names, the body of water is the only natural fresh-water lake in Israel. It borders on the Golan Heights on its east side. The port of Haifa is visible on the Mediterranean coast. The large agriculture projects on the Israeli side of Galilee are irrigated by the lake and the Jordan River.
